Seasonal Shoulders

As Autumn tips towards winter, do the longer nights and cooler days affect your moods?  Has your appetite changed?  Perhaps the flurry of holiday activities in your diary leave you feeling overwhelmed and with little time to recuperate.  It’s important to recognise that living in harmony with the seasons helps to support holistic balance, especially when demands on our time and energy might be at their peak.

What does seasonal living look like in winter?  When we allow ourselves a little more time for rest and reflection, when our diet includes more soups and stews to warm our bones, when a little more nurturing for body and mind becomes a necessity not a luxury.  If we neglect our changing needs in winter, we might experience the effects of fatigue, maybe irritability and upset, or we notice an increase in back pain or headaches.  Complementary treatments can offer relief and help support a healthier you through the colder months.

If you’re anything like me, when I’m overworked the tension shows up in my shoulders and neck.  That problem can become exacerbated during the holidays the more time we spend staring at our phones, preparing meals, or carrying heavy shopping bags!

Regular massage therapy appointments coupled with a consistent gentle yoga practice offer moments of calm, soothe our nervous system, and help keep the muscles supple and the joints mobile.  This is the season when it’s natural to slow down and yet we often ignore the signs until we’re in discomfort.  We plan ahead to ensure our homes are winter-ready, don’t forget about you!

As you organise the seasonal calendar, support habits that help maintain balance in your life by booking a series of treatments with Fiona of Complete Calm Massage Therapy and a block of classes with me in Harrogate, Hampsthwaite or Wetherby.
